The Void in Daggerheart: Every Free Playtest Class & What's New
The Void is Daggerheart's free playtest hub — six classes including the new Summoner and Blood Hunter, plus ancestries, communities, and Transformation Cards you can drop into your campaign today. Here's everything inside as of August 2026.

If you’ve picked up a copy of Daggerheart, The Void is where the game keeps growing. It’s Darrington Press’s free playtest hub — experimental classes, ancestries, communities, and mechanics you can download and drop into your campaign before they’re officially released. Play the material, fill out a survey, and your table’s feedback shapes what the final versions look like.
The hub has grown a lot since it launched. As of the July 2026 update there are six playtest classes plus a stack of character options and GM content. Here’s everything currently inside.
🔮 Every Class in The Void Right Now
The two newest arrivals dropped in July 2026, and both should look familiar to anyone coming over from D&D:
- Summoner (new) – A spellcaster built around conjuring otherworldly beings and putting them to work.
- Subclasses: Necromancy & Theurgy
- Blood Hunter (new) – Yes, that Blood Hunter — Critical Role’s signature class, rebuilt for Daggerheart.
- Subclasses: Order of the Lycan, Order of the Mutant & Order of the Specter
The four originals are still here too, all updated to version 1.5 in late July based on playtest feedback:
- Witch – Nature-based magic users who rely on craft and ritual.
- Subclasses: Hedge & Moon
- Assassin – Precise, deadly characters who strike with efficiency.
- Subclasses: Executioners Guild & Poisoners Guild
- Warlock – Those who’ve made deals with powerful Patrons for magic.
- Subclasses: Pact of the Endless & Pact of the Wrathful
- Brawler – Unarmed fighters using raw physical mastery.
- Subclasses: Juggernaut & Martial Artist
🧝 Ancestries, Communities & the Rest
Beyond classes, the current v1.5 drop includes:
- Ancestries: Aetheris, Earthkin, Emberkin, Skykin, Tidekin, Gnome
- Communities: Duneborne, Freeborne, Frostborne, Hearthborne, Reborne, Warborne
- Transformation Cards – a newer mechanic for characters who become something else mid-campaign: Vampire, Werewolf, Reanimated, Shapeshifter, Ghost, and Demigod
- Adversaries & Environments – 16 playtest adversaries and 4 environments for GMs to run as-is
The Transformation Cards are the sleeper pick here — if a player in your campaign gets bitten, cursed, or ascends to something stranger, there’s now an official-ish framework for it instead of a homebrew ruling.
🛠 Why It’s Worth Using Mid-Campaign
Already deep into a campaign with the core book? The Void is the easiest way to keep it fresh — a new class for the next character, a transformation arc for an existing one, or a batch of adversaries you didn’t have to stat yourself. And because every release ships with a feedback survey, your table gets a real say in what the final versions look like. Note that it’s all playtest material: expect rough edges, and expect it to change between versions — that’s the point.
🚀 How to Get Started
- Download and Play: Grab everything free from The Void page (it moved to daggerheart.com — the old Darrington Press URL is gone).
- Connect with Players: Join the Darrington Press Discord to discuss content and find playtest groups.
- Send Feedback: Every release comes with a survey—surveys usually open within a week or two of each drop.
